Titusville, Florida – Raider Outboards, Inc., a family-owned small business specializing in advanced outboard motor technology, has completed the acquisition of the electric outboard motor operations of Pure Watercraft Inc., based in Seattle, Washington.
Founded in 2011, Pure Watercraft raised $37 million to revolutionize electric propulsion systems for motorboats, seeking to replace traditional gas-powered engines in the $44 billion global leisure boating sector. The company developed a quieter, more environmentally friendly battery-powered outboard engine, positioning itself as a leader in sustainable watercraft technology. In 2023 Pure Watercraft received the Sustainable Innovation of the Year award.
General Motors invested $150 million, acquiring a 25% stake in Pure Watercraft to propel advancements in battery technology for Pure Watercraft’s 30 and 50 horsepower outboards. In 2024 General Motors made a corporate decision to minimize investment in electric vehicles and withdrew support from Pure Watercraft allowing the sale of the electric outboard motor product.
The acquisition of the electric outboard motor from Pure Watercraft not only expands Raider Outboards’ presence in the military but they will now address the commercial market. This strategic move solidifies Raider’s position in the outboard motor business while driving global expansion and diversifying its offerings.
Raider Outboards is expanding its current facility by 10,000 square feet and requires a 20,000 sq. ft. facility for future manufacturing that includes outboard motors, beaching propellers that will fit any outboard, and electronic integration of systems for the military.
